Purpose of this assignment:

The 1960s were a boom time in post World War 11 Australian history, when the latest ideas and culture were eagerly imported from overseas. This assignment will help students to gain an understanding of the social and cultural features of the 1960s and their role in shaping Australia’s identity.

 

Targeted outcomes:

5.1     Explains social, political and cultural developments and events and evaluates their impact on Australian life.

5.8          Locates, selects and organises relevant historical information from a number of sources, including ICT, to undertake historical inquiry.

5.10   Selects and uses appropriate written and other forms, including ICT, to communicate effectively about the past for different audiences.

 

Task:

Describe the main social and cultural features of the 1960s and assess their impact on shaping our contemporary Australian identity.

Define the Task

1.       Describe the main social and cultural features of the 1960s. You must include: fashion, sport, music, entertainment and either the British or American influence on popular culture.

2.       Provide examples of the social and cultural features.

3.       Assess the impact of these features in shaping our contemporary Australian identity.

 

Locate Information

Information can be found in the Library. Browse the 994 shelves and use the catalogue to find information in other sections of the Library. Newspaper articles and the Internet will also provide you with plenty of information – use the Electric Library link on the Library web site.

 

Select and Analyse

Choose relevant information in the form of text, pictures/photos, graphs, timelines etc. Make notes from the resources you choose.

 

Organise and Synthesise

Use the instructions you have been given in ‘Define’ above to create subheadings for your findings. Combine your notes from the different resources you used into your own sentences and paragraphs under your chosen subheadings.
