Purpose of this assignment

The class has been exploring the influences, characteristics and variety of World games and sports. Australia enjoys a variety of games from our rich multicultural heritage. Students will be able to explore a world game and lead their peers through all aspects of the game they have researched.

 

Outcomes

3.1   Demonstrates actions and strategies that contribute to enjoyable participation and skill performance.

 

Task: Students are to research in detail a sport from a different culture and present their findings to the class.

 

 

PLANNING SECTION

 

Define the Task

Research and analyse a game that is popular in another country.  Students can choose from sports like:

·       Flag football

·       Gaelic football

·       Indigenous games

·       Cricket

·       Lacrosse

·       Table tennis

·       Croquet

·       One of your choice – check with your teacher.

 

Create a comprehensive information resource that analyses your chosen sport and provides information relating to:

·                Historical perspective

·                Cultural significance

·                Popularity - who plays it (include statistics)

·                Rules and etiquette

·                Strategies and tactics

·                Future developments

·                Game Skills

 

Locate Information

Students should use the Library to consult reference books, information books (especially the 796 shelves) and newspapers. The Internet will also be useful.

 

Select and Analyse

Choose a variety of text, diagrams and images to fully explain the information.

 

Organise and Synthesise

Organise your information under subheadings for the aspects listed above.

 

Create and Present

You can present your research as a report, PowerPoint, poster or in another suitable format. Include a bibliography.

A successful assignment will feature information that is accurate, detailed and well organised.
