Purpose of
this assignment:
The ability to effectively coach a sport is a valuable skill that can assist sports people to reach their full potential. This assignment provides an opportunity for students to develop their coaching skills and their ability to collaborate with a partner.

3.2 Evaluates the characteristics
of enjoyable participation and quality performance in physical activity and
sport.

Task: Students are to develop a 30-minute
coaching session with a partner and present it to
the class. Include a one-page
summary of the session.
PLANNING SECTION
Define the
Task
1. Practical
Assessment - Task Coaching Session.
Choose a sport
and present
a 30-minute coaching session to the class with a partner. The session must
display all aspects of a thorough coaching session including:

An appropriate warm-up
·
Stretches
·
Skill drills
·
Fitness conditioning
·
A modified game to suit time and
players available
·
A warm down
All other class members will participate in each coaching session.
Students are to provide feedback and evaluation to the coaches at the end
of each coaching session.
2. Summary
Present a thorough one-page
summary of your coaching session that inludes information about all the aspects
named in 1. above and includes pictures.
Locate Information
Students should
use the Library to consult information books on the 796 shelves for individual
sports and on the 613 shelves for fitness and stretching exercises. The
Internet will also be useful - try www.ausport.gov.au
Select and Analyse
Textual
information can be supported by useful diagrams and other aids.
Organise and Synthesise
Your coaching session and summary will both need to be organised
carefully. Break your session into logical parts and order them appropriately,
as suggested in Define the Task above.
Create and Present
Demonstrate
the warm up/down and other skills components. Explain skills, training
activities and game play clearly with cues and aids. Explain basic rules and
run a short game session.
Ensure that your
one-page summary covers all aspects concisely and includes a bibliography of
resources used.
