Safety First Assignment

Marks / value: 20% of year theory mark.

 

Date due: 11th August 2008. Week 4, Term 3.

 

When an emergency situation occurs we rely on the skills and knowledge of the people nearby or those called to the scene to treat injuries and to save lives. The purpose of this assignment is to give you an understanding of the causes of emergencies and the methods that can be used to successfully respond to them.

Task

To research the aspects of emergency care associated with a popular venue and to present an assignment that shows your in-depth understanding of this topic.

 

 

PLANNING SECTION

ASSIGNMENT PLANNER

 

Define the Task

Choose a setting from below.

 

Complete a detailed coverage of 5 of the major injury types that may occur at your chosen venue. You should provide:

-The name of the injury type.

-Treatment for each injury.

-Preventative measures for each injury type.

-A detailed diagram of the site that clearly shows the risk areas.

 

Locate Information

Look for information in the Reference section; use the Library catalogue to investigate the Non-Fiction section (particularly the 600's) and try some of the websites listed at the end of this document.

 

Select and Analyse

Make notes or highlight the relevant parts of photocopies or printouts of the information that you have found. Collect information in the form of text, pictures, diagrams, flow charts, statistics, tables etc. as relevant.

 

Organise and Synthesise

Break your topic into the parts outlined in 'Define the task' above and organise the information you have found so that you fully explain each of the parts. Make sure you have relevant diagrams etc. for each part. These parts can become the sections of an information report (use a subheading to begin each new part) or areas on a poster.

 

Create and Present

Choose one of these presentation methods:

Include a properly set out bibliography as part of your chosen format.

 

Evaluate and Reflect

A good assignment will be well researched, have detailed information and will be expressed in your own words. It will also be neatly and thoughtfully presented and have a properly written bibliography.

Assess how well you feel you handled each step of this assignment and read the Teacher's comments carefully when the assignment is returned to you.
