Define the Task

You are to design your perfect bedroom. There is no cost limit, but it should be no larger than 6m x 6m and it must be realistic (able to be built). Present the following items in a presentation folio:

1.       A page of inspirations. This is a collage of pictures, colour or sample swatches and ideas that represent the mood of your perfect bedroom. Label pictures with words that describe the mood.

(1 page, 5 marks)

2.       A Sketch Plan Drawing. This is a plan of your room from an overhead perspective that gives the dimensions of the room, furniture, doors and windows to scale. Use a 1:20 scale to fit on your A4 page. Make wall lines thickest and furniture lines thinner. Mark north. Label major items, furniture, doors and windows. (1 page, 10 marks)

3.       A Sample Board. This is a board of samples or pictures of items that you will use in the room. Present the samples on cardboard (heavy weight if possible). Include samples of all major items eg paint, flooring, furniture, window coverings, bed linen, accessories. Label items clearly. Keep this to 1 X A4 page only. Include at least 2 actual samples (eg. paint swatch, carpet sample, fabric sample)

(1 page, 10 marks)

4.       A one-point perspective drawing of your room. Include a one-point perspective drawing of your room. Do it in pencil first of all, then trace and render. Include both your pencil drawing and your rendered final drawing. (2 X A3 pages, 15 marks) Render with coloured pencil, fine black felt tip pen and pantone markers.

5.       Report on an Interior designer: Florence Broadhurst. Florence Broadhurst was an influential Australian interior designer from the past. She was famous for her range of wallpaper designs. Use half a page to briefly outline her life and achievements. Include pictures of two of her designs.
