Define the Task
What do I have to do? Following, are questions to answer before you proceed with your research:
- What is the purpose of this task?
- What are my instructions?
- What are the main sections of the task?
- What are the expectations?
- What are the important parts of the topic? What subheadings could I use?
- What types of information are relevant and how much do I need to thoroughly cover the topic?
- What are the key words and terms I can use to find information?
- What should my plan of attack be?
The DEFINING step - some strategies:
- Use dictionaries to define the terms used in the assignment instructions.
- Start to write down 'keywords' - the words you discover during your research which relate closely to your topic and can be used to search for information about the various aspects of the topic.
- Start to make an assignment plan which shows the important parts of the topic.
