Students are responsible for the hired instrument in their possession. Reasonable care must be taken against the instrument being lost, stolen or damaged. The instrument must be left in a safe place both at school and away from school. Students should report any instrument damage to their teacher immediately. 

If an instrument is lost or damaged due to lack of reasonable care, the student will be responsible for the cost of repairs or replacement. Instrument accessories such as reeds, strings, valve oil, sticks, etc. are the student’s responsibility and will not be covered by the hire fee.

Instruments for hire

At Bishop Druitt College a limited number of instruments are available for hire. These include: 

• Violin
• Viola
• Cello
• Double bass
• Flute
• Oboe
• Clarinet
• Alto saxophone
• Tenor saxophone
• Trumpet
• French horn
• Trombone

Instruments are available for a period of 12 months. The cost of hiring an instrument is $90.00 per semester and is required to be paid at the accounts office by Week 2 of each semester.

Conditions of hiring an instrument

1. You are required to keep the instrument in good condition and return it in the same condition at the expiration of the hire. 
2. You are responsible for any loss or damage to the instrument, including the case. This includes payment for any repairs that may be required or the purchase of a new instrument if the damage is significant.
3. You are responsible also for replacing strings and reeds on applicable instruments. You will also need to purchase rosin and valve oil, if required.
4. Termination of the hire must be provided in writing to the Head of Music with at least 28 days notice. No money will be refunded if the hire is terminated before the end of term.
5. The instrument is returnable upon demand from the Head of Music for inspection, repair, adjustment, or for any other reason.
