Chaplain's Chat 2026 Term 1 Week 3

By Rev Lisa Williamson, BDC School Chaplain

Hello friends!

Welcome - or welcome back - for another wonderful year at Bishop Druitt College.

I feel so blessed to be a part of this community, and it has been lovely to see so many of you over the last couple of weeks as we get the year started.

This term we prepare to join with Christians around the world in celebrating Easter.

This week, we will gather and formally begin the season of Lent, with our whole-school worship time for Ash Wednesday. Lent is a time of acknowledging the situations in our world, and in our own lives, that most need the hope and light of Christ. War, conflict, and injustice… illness and bereavement… our own regrets and failings. We name these things, not to bind ourselves in the darkness, but to bring them to the light of Christ that sets us free.

In Week 9, we will gather again to celebrate that great new hope, as we retell the story of Jesus’ death and resurrection through our Easter Service. As with all our worship times here at BDC, we warmly welcome families and community members to come and join us. Our worship times are truly ‘Come as you are’ gatherings - whatever your faith or background, whatever is happening in your life, we would love you to be with us as we spend time with God together.

As we prepare for Easter, I am encouraging all members of our BDC community to make this a season of prayer. Whether prayer is completely new to you, something you do occasionally, or something you do every day, there is always more to learn as we seek to deepen our connection with God. Not sure how to get started? That’s ok! This term I will be releasing some videos with tips on different ways to pray, and to create your own rhythm of prayer, so you can come closer to God. Stay tuned!

As we all gather and stand upon Country, may we acknowledge and respect Gumbaynggirr Land and the thousands of years’ worth of both physical and spiritual connection to Country, culture and teachings embedded forever within these Lands.
