Bishop Druitt College (BDC) continues to strengthen its reputation as a leading independent school in regional New South Wales, with educators Isabel Horspool and Holly Dunn named recipients of the 2026 Rising Stars award by The Educator.

The national recognition highlights excellence in teaching, leadership, and innovation across the Australian K–12 education sector and reflects BDC’s ongoing commitment to developing outstanding educators and delivering high-quality learning outcomes for students.

Recognising excellence in teaching and leadership

The Rising Stars award celebrates high-achieving educators under the age of 35 who are making a significant impact through innovation, leadership, and measurable outcomes in education.

BDC Principal Simon Doyle said the recognition reflects both individual achievement and the strength of the college’s learning environment.

“Both Isabel and Holly have demonstrated a strong commitment to educational excellence, embracing innovative approaches to teaching and learning while contributing to a culture of collaboration and continuous improvement at Bishop Druitt College,” he said.

He added that the recognition reinforces BDC’s position as a leading school for teacher development in NSW.

“Their recognition reflects not only their individual dedication, but also the strength of the college’s supportive and forward-thinking learning environment.”

Building a culture of innovation and continuous improvement

The Rising Stars program also acknowledges schools that actively support early-career educators through professional development, mentorship, and innovation in teaching practice.

Deputy Principal Sue O’Connor said the award highlights the strength of BDC’s culture and its reputation as an employer of choice in education.

“Being recognised as both a 5-Star Best School and a 5-Star Employer of Choice by The Educator highlights the strength of our culture and community,” she said.
“Bishop Druitt College continues to be a place where educators are empowered to grow, lead, and inspire, ensuring our students benefit from dynamic and engaging learning experiences every day.”

This focus on staff development and collaboration supports BDC’s broader commitment to attracting and retaining high-quality educators in regional NSW.

A shared commitment to student learning and staff growth

Award recipient Holly Dunn said the recognition reflects the collaborative culture within the school.

“Being named a Rising Star in 2026 is meaningful recognition of the work that goes on every day in classrooms,” she said.
“It reflects the teamwork, collaboration, and constant drive to do what’s best for our students.”

She also acknowledged the supportive environment at BDC.

“I’m proud to be part of a school like Bishop Druitt College where people genuinely back each other and want to keep improving.”

Isabel Horspool said the award provided an opportunity to reflect on professional growth and learning.

“It’s an honour to be recognised as a Rising Star in 2026,” she said.
“I’ve always believed in stepping outside your comfort zone, learning along the way, and leaning on the people around you when you need to.”

She added that the school’s culture plays an important role in staff development.

“I’m really proud to be part of Bishop Druitt College, where there’s such a strong focus on supporting each other and fostering growth for both staff and students.”

What this means for families and prospective staff
