Recent da Vinci Success in the 2026 State Final
In April 37 Bishop Druitt College students traveled to Port Macquarie to participate in the regional da Vinci Decathlon. The students had a wonderful time engaging with this prestigious academic competition, designed to challenge and stimulate gifted and talented students. This decathlon was inspired by Leonardo da Vinci, it requires teams of eight students to collaborate and solve complex, problem-based tasks across ten diverse disciplines.
Out of 28 teams from schools from Taree to Coffs, two of our teams won first place and were invited to participate in the State final at Knox Grammar School in Sydney. Our two teams travelled to Sydney to participate.
Our Year 8 team competed against 82 teams and received 11th in the Legacy paper. Our Year 11 team competed against 157 teams from year 9-11. Out of 40 year 11 teams, they received: 1st in Cartography, 1st in Ideation, 7th in Legacy and 12th in Science. Our year 11s placed 10th overall. This is an incredible achievement, especially considering many of the opponents attend schools that offer rigorous gifted and talented programs that specifically prepare for this challenge.
Mr Driscoll led the students on many adventures around Sydney, including taking the Year 8s on an entertaining tour around the Hyde park barracks today. Thank you to all the teachers who supported the students to participate in this event. These students certainly embraced the challenges they were faced with.

Focus on Digital Safety
The prevalence of online usage has brought students into a new and sometimes challenging realm of information.
On Friday 15th of May BDC hosted four workshops on important topics of online safety:
Year 7 Cybersecurity; Year 8 Protecting your Personal Information; Year 9 Cyberbullying; Year 10 Digital Discernment.
All of the sessions were led by a lively, engaging presenter Kirsten Binks, for a regional outreach program sponsored by the Optus Digital Thumbprint program.
These sessions allowed students to hear real-life scenarios, to learn about consequences of their actions online, and practical ways to avoid many of the issues faced in the digital spaces they use.
