Every year, students in Years 3, 5, 7, and 9 participate in the National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN). While we know that NAPLAN is just one test on one particular day, we are incredibly proud to share this year's wonderful results, which highlight the excellent teaching and learning that occurs at Bishop Druitt College. We are particularly proud of our students for their persistence and resilience, which is clearly reflected in these outstanding achievements.
These results are a direct reflection of our consistent, whole-school approach to education. At BDC, we are intentional in choosing high-impact teaching strategies that support every learner. This shared commitment across Primary and Secondary ensures that we carry over best practices, providing a seamless and effective learning journey for students as they progress through the college.
A Strong Foundation in the Primary Years
Our focus on targeted and differentiated learning in primary school has once again yielded fantastic results. We are thrilled to report that our Year 3 and Year 5 students performed above the NSW State average across all five NAPLAN domains.
This success is underpinned by specific, evidence-based programs designed to meet the needs of every child. Throughout the primary years, we run Learning Sprints, which are five-week cycles of goal-focused, small-group intervention aimed at enhancing student knowledge in key areas. Furthermore, our Extension programs for both numeracy and literacy begin as early as Year 3. Our dedicated teachers consistently differentiate their teaching to ensure that every student is supported and challenged, allowing them all to achieve their potential.
Continued Growth in Secondary
The strong foundation built in the primary years is evident in the continued success of our secondary students. We are delighted to announce that both our Year 7 and Year 9 cohorts outperformed the state average in four of the five assessed areas. These impressive results showcase the benefits of our collaborative approach. The hard work and dedication of our students, combined with the strategic focus of our teachers, have enabled them to build on their core skills and achieve outstanding growth.
It is always rewarding to see our programs, hard work, and teacher effort provide our students with the best possible opportunity to succeed. Congratulations to all our students and staff on these brilliant results.
