iHub News 2026 Term 1 Week 3
Welcome to Term 1 and to our dynamic iHub learning space for another year!
2026 will see the BDC Library and Innovation spaces engaged for study periods, extension activities, careers sessions, chess, debating, research lessons, author visits, and much more!
A new iHub Update notification service will be displayed in the foyer and posted on SchoolBox as needed to make you aware of significant events and priorities.

Textbook distribution to students was conducted in Week 1, and many thanks go to Mr Andrew Walker, our amazing Library Technician, for the energy and organisation required over the past weeks to gather and organise well over a thousand textbooks and place them in sets for each year group to collect at scheduled times. An incredibly busy and successful week!
To inspire students and keep them aware of the infinite range of interests that libraries serve, there will be regular postings and displays about special days, events, and celebrations that keep our BDC students informed and world prepared.
February highlights in the Library include both a book and digital display for Safer Internet Day on the 10th; an upcoming display on Chinese Lunar New Year; and the announcement of the CBCA (Children’s Book Council of Australia) Notables for 2026, which are released on the 24th of February.

Finally, research lessons for all HSIE (Geography and History) classes from Years 7 to 10 commence in Week 3. For Term 1 these include: research on natural disasters for Year 7; an oral heritage study of an object of historical interest for Year 8 History students; analysis and evaluation of the issues around food production, transport, and consumption for Year 9; and a historical investigation of First Nations rights and freedoms in Year 10.
Each of the library research sessions for these students will aim to assist them in locating relevant readings for their tasks in books, encyclopaedias, as well as online databases and resources. Topics such as digital citizenship and the nature of and precautions needed around AI are also discussed as part of library sessions. The aim is to prepare our students with the skills and awareness of the world of information that surrounds them!

As we all gather and stand upon Country, may we acknowledge and respect Gumbaynggirr Land and the thousands of years’ worth of both physical and spiritual connection to Country, culture and teachings embedded forever within these Lands.
