Year 7 Outdoor Education Camp - Great Aussie Bush Camp

Our Year 7 students recently returned from an incredible four-day adventure at Great Aussie Bush Camp, running from Monday to Thursday, and what a week it was!

Across the camp, students stepped well outside their comfort zones. They tackled the high ropes course with courage and resilience, and many took a deep breath before launching themselves on the giant swing; an experience that tested bravery and built confidence in equal measure. Teamwork was front and centre during the raft-building challenge, where groups discovered that communication, cooperation and problem-solving were just as important as the final product (whether their raft floated… or not!).

Evenings were filled with energy and laughter, especially at the disco where students danced the night away and strengthened new friendships. The famous mud course was another highlight, with students embracing the fun, getting completely covered from head to toe, and showing fantastic spirit and enthusiasm.

A special highlight of the camp was the involvement of our Year 10 Peer Support leaders. These senior students were outstanding role models, encouraging nervous campers, helping groups work through challenges, including others in activities, and simply being a calm and friendly presence throughout the week. Their leadership, maturity and care played a significant role in helping our Year 7 students feel safe, supported and connected as they begin their high school journey.

Overall, the camp was tremendous and made possible by the wonderful staff who stood, played, jumped, laughed and danced side by side.

BDC Duke of Edinburgh Program

The Duke of Edinburgh program at BDC continues to build great momentum, with students showing strong commitment to their goals within The Duke of Edinburgh's International Award.

We currently have eight students completing their Bronze Award, and it has been fantastic to see their dedication across the Volunteering, Physical Recreation and Skills components. The majority have now completed their required hours and are in the final stages of preparing and submitting their evidence to the Award administration for badge approval. Their consistency and perseverance throughout the process have been commendable.

We are also excited to welcome three new Year 11 students who have commenced their Silver Award journey. They are looking to build momentum following Year 11 Camp and embrace the additional challenge and leadership opportunities that Silver presents.

The Duke of Edinburgh program continues to provide students with meaningful opportunities for growth, service and adventure. If you are interested in becoming involved, please contact Tim Chapman in Outdoor Education for further information.

Kaizen - Outdoor Education - Outdoor Everything

First term Kaizen has kicked off with a blast. The class is working through the four elements of survival: Fire, water, shelter and food. During the single periods we review an element, understand the theory behind its importance and receive instructions in preparation for the double practical.

Shelter provided students the chance to discuss and practically set up different shelters.
