NSWCIS Cup Reports Round 2

Open Boys
Round 2 16/3/26 v Coffs Harbour Christian Community School @ Coffs Synthetics

Our Open Boys took on CCS in round 2 of the CIS Cup and expected a tight game with a number of injuries leading into the game.

The boys started strong with control of possession early, finding space down the sides. The ball was moved out to Blair Herford who cut inside to cross the ball, placing a difficult cross into the box with players attacking the ball. The goalkeeper missed the ball, with it going in the far corner, taking the lead 1-0.

CCS then found some rhythm to slow our play and attempt to play out from the back. We could not take advantage of some chances, with some loose shots going over the bar and not troubling the keeper. Just before halftime, we had a corner where Kweller Happ headed the ball into the post and the ball found its way into the net, with Charlie Wood tapping it home to make the score 2-0 at halftime.

Straight after the break, CCS made some changes to positions and had their winger cut inside and take a long range shot that went into the top corner, making the score 2-1. We fought back to gain momentum and continued to press for another goal, but unfortunately could not find the net, with the score staying 2-1 for a strong win against a strong CCS team.

Open Girls
Round 2 v Carinya Christian School @ Port Macquarie

Our Open Girls team had a tough match against Carinya Christian College in round 2 of the NSWCIS Cup, held in Port Macquarie.

Both teams worked hard in the hot conditions, but neither were able to score. The team created a lot of good chances going forward, but strong saves were made to keep the score even. The game remained tight until the second half when Carinya managed to score first and take the lead. Late in the second half, we continued to create attacking opportunities and it paid off through an attacking run down the wing from Tayla Foldes and slotted in by Mia Ryan. With the game still tied, it came to penalties where we came away with the win after a hard fought match.

As we all gather and stand upon Country, may we acknowledge and respect Gumbaynggirr Land and the thousands of years’ worth of both physical and spiritual connection to Country, culture and teachings embedded forever within these Lands.
