Cross Country

The Cross Country was a fantastic event, with beautiful weather and a great track set along the beach, providing the perfect setting for competition.

It was wonderful to see such a strong turnout from all students, with some very competitive finishes across the line as runners pushed for qualifying places for the next level.

Congratulations to all students who competed. The top 10 finishers in each age group have now received an email with details regarding progression to the NCIS Cross Country event next term at Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar School.

A special congratulations to our Age Champions on their outstanding performances. Medals will be presented during House meetings over the coming weeks.

Well done to everyone involved in a great day of participation and competition.

NCIS Cross Country

On Friday, 8 May, students from Years 2–12 set off nice and early for the NCIS Cross Country at Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar School in Kingscliff. Students competed in 2km, 3km, 4km, and 6km races across a very hilly and challenging course.

All students ran their hearts out, demonstrating incredible perseverance and grit throughout the day. We had several students achieve podium finishes, while many others placed in the top 15 and qualified for CIS in Sydney.

A huge thank you to the staff for their organisation, and to the parents and students who helped the day run so smoothly.

Primary Mid-North Coast Rugby 7s Tournament

In April, students from Bishop Druitt College travelled to Kempsey to compete in the Primary Mid-North Coast Rugby 7s Tournament. It was a productive day of sport, characterised by great sportsmanship and a high level of effort from all involved.

The BDC boys represented the school with consistent determination and teamwork. Throughout the day, the teams experienced a mix of hard-fought victories and some narrow losses.

Specific highlights from the standings included:

Year 3/4 Team: Performed well across their pool games, only to go down in the semi-final to finish 3rd overall in their division. An excellent result for a young team.

Year 5 & 6 Teams: Both the Year 5 and 6 teams came second in their pool matches, which made for an exciting finish to the day. Both teams played against one another to decide 3rd and 4th place overall. It was a close and competitive match, with the Year 6 team narrowly winning to take 3rd place.

Congratulations to all the boys for their conduct, sportsmanship, and efforts on the field, which led to a successful tourament.

AFL Junior School Cup

Our BDC teams delivered an outstanding performance at the AFL Junior School Cup held at Woolgoolga Sports Complex, showcasing skill, teamwork, and resilience throughout the day.

Boys Team
The boys were dominant from the outset, winning both of their pool games convincingly by over 30 points. Their strong form continued into the semi-final, where they defeated Coffs Harbour High School 32–6 in a confident display.

In the Grand Final, the team capped off a fantastic day with a commanding victory over John Paul College, winning 38–8. Their pressure, ball movement, and teamwork were highlights, resulting in a well-deserved championship win.

Girls Team
The girls also had a strong start, winning both of their pool games and progressing to the semi-finals. In challenging conditions, they competed in a tightly contested match played in pouring rain. Despite a determined effort, they were narrowly defeated, bringing their campaign to an end.

Overall
Both teams represented the school with pride, demonstrating excellent sportsmanship and commitment throughout the day. Congratulations to all players and coaches on a fantastic effort.

Both teams will play in Round 2 at Sawtell in a few weeks.

Bill Turner Cup - Round 2

Girls v Coffs Harbour High School @ Coffs Synthetics

In Round 2 of the Bill Turner Cup, our girls faced Jetty High School in a tense, back-and-forth match. Both teams battled for possession, and while we created strong passing plays and scoring chances, Jetty found the breakthrough just before halftime with a rocket shot from outside the box — one we simply couldn’t stop.

Despite being down a goal and having no substitutes due to injury, the girls controlled the tempo of the game, showing immense composure. With a bit more intensity and fresh legs from substitutes, the outcome might have gone our way. We were dominant in attack, pushing 95 percent of the way to goal but just couldn’t get off that final shot to challenge the keeper.

Defensively, we shut down Jetty’s attack well, allowing them only a handful of chances. Though Jetty played tough and had some near misses, we had the majority of attacking momentum.

Though the result didn’t go our way, the girls couldn’t be faulted. They played with heart, pride, and resilience, and they should be proud.

Boys v Christian Community School @ Coffs Synthetics

The Under 15 boys took on CCS in their first game for 2026 in the Bill Turner Cup. This took place at Coffs Synthetics, with showers of rain making conditions difficult for both teams.

BDC started strongly, taking control of possession and looking to move forward. After both teams settled, we were able to take advantage behind the defence and created a nice play, setting up a first-time finish for Finn Adam from a good pass by Ned Griffin.

In the second half, we continued to look for opportunities and were strong defensively, limiting CCS’s chances. After a few shots and well-worked passages of play, Eli Franke was able to pounce on a loose clearance from the goalkeeper, shooting a long-range shot into the net to make the score 2–0.

From there, we played well, holding possession and limiting any forward momentum to take a strong 2–0 win against a tough CCS side. The team now progresses to Round 3 in the coming weeks.

Netball Primary Schools Cup

Our students recently competed in the Schools Cup Netball Day, with three teams proudly representing Bishop Druitt College across both social and competitive divisions.

Our Year 3 and 4 mixed team participated in the social competition, with many students experiencing competitive netball for the very first time. The team had an outstanding day on the court, remaining undefeated throughout the competition. Students demonstrated enthusiasm, resilience, and teamwork as they developed their understanding of the game and built confidence with each match.

Our two Year 5 and 6 teams competed in the competitive division and took on teams of all levels across the day. Both teams performed exceptionally well, finishing in second place within their respective pools. This achievement saw both teams progress through to the finals, where they were eventually defeated by the two top-performing teams of the tournament. The students should be incredibly proud of their efforts, determination, and sportsmanship throughout a highly competitive day of netball.

Across all teams, the day was filled with laughter, smiles, cheering from the sidelines, and, of course, plenty of Red Frogs to keep energy levels high.

Staff were especially pleased to hear positive feedback about the way our students represented the true BDC spirit throughout the carnival. Players were seen helping opponents up after falls, supporting and coaching less experienced players on positional rules during games, and demonstrating kindness and encouragement at every opportunity.

These moments reflected the values of teamwork, respect, and inclusivity that we strive to foster in sport.

A special thank you also goes to our secondary student umpires who joined us for the day and supported the smooth running of games. Their assistance, leadership, and willingness to give back to younger students were greatly appreciated.

As we all gather and stand upon Country, may we acknowledge and respect Gumbaynggirr Land and the thousands of years’ worth of both physical and spiritual connection to Country, culture and teachings embedded forever within these Lands.
