State Cup Basketball

The 16&U State Cup Basketball Qualifiers were recently held at Sportz Central, with BDC represented by three teams across the competition. It was a fantastic day of basketball, showcasing great skill, determination, teamwork, and sportsmanship from all players involved.

Our Girls team dominated the competition throughout the day, winning every game by 40 points or more to finish as champions of their division. The girls played an exciting brand of basketball and were outstanding on both ends of the court, demonstrating excellent teamwork and composure.

The Division 2 Boys team competed strongly in a number of tightly fought matches, eventually finishing runners up after an impressive day of competition. The boys showed resilience and determination throughout the tournament against quality opposition.

Our Division 3 Boys team also had an excellent day, finishing third overall. They were involved in several highly competitive games and represented BDC with great spirit and sportsmanship throughout the tournament.

A special mention to the BDC staff coaches for their support and leadership throughout the day, along with Year 11 student Charlie George, who did a fantastic job in his coaching role. Well done to all teams.

NCIS Open Football

The NCIS Open Football Championships were held in Coffs Harbour at the Coffs Coast Synthetics under extremely wet and rainy conditions. Despite the challenging weather, the standard of football across the day was outstanding, with players displaying great determination, resilience, and sportsmanship.

Our Open Girls team competed strongly throughout the tournament against top quality opposition and finished the day as runners up. The girls showed excellent teamwork, skill, and composure in difficult playing conditions and should be proud of their efforts.

The Open Boys team also faced some tough competition across the day and finished in third place overall. The boys demonstrated great spirit and commitment, with several close and highly competitive matches throughout the tournament.

A highlight of the day was the outstanding talent on display from our BDC students, with 10 students selected in NCIS teams to compete at the CIS Championships in Sydney later in Term 2. This is a tremendous achievement and recognition of the hard work and quality of our players.

These players were Mia Ryan, Charlotte Bunny, Xavier Carlin, Tayla Foldes, Eli Friel, Vinnie Hall, Blair Herford, Lily Mackay, and Gemma Ray.

NSW Rugby Union Country Match Official (Referee) Development Program

The program brought 15 up and coming next Gen junior referees (match officials) to undergo a development program with NSWRU and NSWCRU referee educators at the NSW Country Rugby Championships at Tamworth over the weekend (15 to 17 May).

Lachlan Jameson (11) was selected by the NSW Country Rugby Union Referees Association, joining 14 other regional next Gen referees to participate.

Lachlan underwent education sessions across three days, as well as practical experience working in a high performance championship match official team as an Assistant Referee and No. 4 referee. This was across open men’s (two divisions) and open women’s, as well as the colts games. Four of the next Gen referees from the program were then selected to be a part of the MO team for the four finals matches. Lachlan was selected in the MO team for the Colts final.

This was a fitting reward for his performance across the program, with the experiences setting him up well for the NSW State Junior Championships in June.

As we all gather and stand upon Country, may we acknowledge and respect Gumbaynggirr Land and the thousands of years’ worth of both physical and spiritual connection to Country, culture and teachings embedded forever within these Lands.
