As students return to sport after the summer break, it’s an exciting time to re-engage with training, competition, and team routines. For students involved in Bishop Druitt College’s High Performance Program, this period is also an important opportunity to reset habits that support both performance and long-term wellbeing.

Through our ongoing partnership with Hoys Allied Health, we’re committed to providing students with the tools and professional support they need to perform at their best throughout the season.

Fuel Growing Bodies

As training loads increase, growing bodies require consistent, high-quality fuel. Regular meals and snacks that include a balance of carbohydrates, protein, and healthy fats are essential for maintaining energy levels, supporting recovery, and promoting healthy development. Establishing these habits early helps student-athletes sustain performance across a demanding school and training schedule.

Stay Hydrated

Hydration plays a critical role in both physical and cognitive performance. Students should be encouraged to drink water consistently throughout the day, as well as before, during, and after training sessions and games. Even mild dehydration can impact concentration, endurance, and recovery.

Warm Up, Cool Down and Stretch

A structured warm-up prepares the body for performance, while proper cool-down and stretching routines support recovery and reduce injury risk. These practices are a key focus within the High Performance Program, helping students train safely and consistently.

Don’t Ignore Niggles

Small aches and pains are common during periods of increased activity, but early intervention is essential. Addressing minor injuries before they escalate helps students stay active and avoid longer-term setbacks.

Supporting Performance Through Partnership

The goal of the High Performance Program is not just to get students through the season, but to help them feel strong, confident, and prepared to perform at their best.

Through our partnership with Hoys, students and families have access to a team of experienced Exercise Physiologists, Physiotherapists, and Dietitians who can assist with performance, recovery, nutrition, and injury prevention.

If your child would benefit from additional support this season, we encourage you to connect with the Hoys team on 02 6652 7355.
