Kindergarten Parent Testimonials at Bishop Druitt College

What Families Say About Our Kindergarten at Bishop Druitt College

Families across Coffs Harbour choose Bishop Druitt College for a nurturing and engaging kindergarten experience. Our early learning program focuses on wellbeing, confidence, and school readiness, helping children build strong foundations for future success. But the best way to understand our approach is through the voices of our community. Here’s what parents say about their experience with kindergarten at Bishop Druitt College.

At the heart of our school is a commitment to develop the whole child.

"We really appreciated the thoughtful, gradual transition into BDC Kindy for our child, who was coming from a small preschool.

Our child got the opportunity to feel safe, comfortable, and excited about going to big school. We have loved watching our child settle in, make friends, and become confident with school life. Coming home every day full of stories.

Having an idea of what is happening in the classroom via the app is also helpful for having conversations about school and events.

Having OSHC on-site has been great for us as a working family."

Alie Rodwell

"My child started at BDC, very nervous, excited, but nervous and has been supported by the teacher and other staff to initiate new friendships, engage actively in learning and the school dog, Barkley, has definitely been a really positive element to finding a place in a new school.

The level of communication between myself and our teacher has been beyond anything we could have hoped for."

Hear from our kindy families

"We couldn't be happier with the transition to Kindergarten at BDC, and neither could our child.

The information provided to parents in the lead-up to the school year, along with fun orientation days for families, meant we all felt ready and excited for the first day.

And our child has continued to thrive since then, thanks to an engaging and nurturing teacher and the varied and exciting school days spent with classmates."

Erica Daly

"I was a little unsure how our child would transition to Kindergarten at BDC, having never attended preschool.

I feel like we hit the jackpot with getting our teacher. She has made my child's transition to kindergarten so easy. She is caring, thoughtful and provides such an amazing environment for the children. She provides constant little updates, and nothing is ever too hard for her. My child really loves the investigations program in the mornings, and also really enjoys Chapel.

We are over the moon with how our child has settled into kindergarten."

Candice Pitsis

"As a primary school teacher myself, I have been blown away by the care and quality that goes into all aspects of BDC life.

My child has settled in and loves attending kindergarten and is excited to go. Already transferring learning into the home."

Bonnie Maier

"We’ve been extremely happy with our child’s experience at BDC. Even before the school year began, the staff were incredibly welcoming and supportive, taking the time to help our child feel comfortable and excited about starting kindergarten.

Their kindness and reassurance made the transition much easier for our family. We are so grateful for the patience and professionalism from all the educators, allowing our child to settle in quite quickly, despite being quite reserved initially.

We would highly recommend BDC to any family looking for a nurturing and high-quality early learning environment."

Libby Willman

"From the very first transition day, our child entered this new chapter with confidence and enthusiasm, and it has been such a joy to watch our child settle in so positively. We have loved all aspects of the transition to Kindergarten at BDC and have felt reassured every step of the way.

What has stood out most has been the quality of communication from all angles. The consistent updates, the warmth and professionalism of staff and the photos capturing learning moments throughout the day have meant so much to us as parents. Being able to see glimpses of our child's experiences and learning has made us feel genuinely connected to our start at BDC and confident that our child is in a nurturing and engaging environment.

It is clear that great care has gone into making children and families feel welcomed, informed and supported. We are so grateful for the positive start at BDC and feel excited for all that lies ahead!"

Holly Wedd

"We’ve been so blown away by the kindergarten experience so far. From the classrooms and facilities to the warmth of the teachers, it has been such a positive start to school life.

Our child has said numerous times, “I can’t wait to go to school today,” which is just wonderful to hear and really speaks to the environment the teachers have created.

We’ve been particularly impressed that our child's teacher has already recognised some individual strengths and is actively nurturing them. Seeing that level of attention and care so early on has been incredibly reassuring for us as parents, and it’s exactly the kind of supportive, thoughtful education we were hoping for when we chose BDC for her schooling.

The sense of community and encouragement from the staff has made the transition to school such a happy experience for our family."

Carragh Finlay

"We’ve been blown away by how welcoming and supportive the school and its community have been.

Our child is excited for school everyday which speaks to how comfortable and nurtured our child feels by the teacher and the school space as a whole."

Gareth Hughes

"During the year prior to our child starting Kindy, we were touring around Australia in our caravan. During our adventure, we were looking for a place to call our forever home.

Coffs Harbour topped the list for many reasons, and BDC played a big role.

My wife and I were initially concerned that, by leaving Melbourne behind, we might lose educational opportunities for our child. I can confidently say that BDC is a parent's dream. Even on the first day, when I got us all completely lost, senior school students dropped what they were doing and went well out of their way to lead us to the classroom.

The depth of care from everyone is truly astounding. I couldn't recommend BDC highly enough."

Brendan O'Brien

"The transition program at BDC is incredibly comprehensive and really helped our son feel comfortable and excited about starting school. The children have multiple opportunities to engage with the school before the year begins, including meeting their teachers twice, one of those visits taking place just before the start of term. The chance to attend playgroup at the kindergarten playground was also wonderful, as it allowed the children to become familiar with the environment and explore the school grounds in a relaxed way. One day while attending playgroup, my son even had the opportunity to have a private look at his classroom, which made the transition feel even more special and personal.

His teacher has been warm, engaging and approachable, and we appreciated having the opportunity to ask questions and connect early on. Now in week 7 of Term 1, we have already seen incredible growth in our son. His counting, pencil grip and colouring have improved dramatically, and he has become so enthusiastic about learning.

What has been most special is seeing how his learning carries over into home life. He often asks to help with making his lunch, baking, and cleaning up. He also talks about being kind, helping his friends and doing the right thing, which speaks volumes about the values being reinforced at school through the teaching and support from staff.

BDC also does an exceptional job of creating a strong sense of community. There are many opportunities for families to be involved in school life through sporting events, activities and gatherings that bring students, parents and staff together. These experiences help children feel proud of their school and create a supportive and welcoming environment for families.

We feel very grateful to be part of such a nurturing and engaged school community."
