Successful Newcastle and Sydney Universities Excursion

We recently had the pleasure of taking 13 of our Year 11 students on the inaugural Newcastle and Sydney Universities Excursion, joining 10 other schools from across the Mid North Coast. In total, 90 students visited the University of NewcastleUniversity of SydneyMacquarie University, and University of New South Wales.

Over the three days, students participated in a range of engaging faculty experiences across health, science, and engineering, while also connecting with student ambassadors and touring each campus. The excursion provided valuable insight into university life and course options, helping students make more informed decisions about their future pathways and which university may be the right fit for them. As an added bonus we also had the pleasure of bumping into some BDC alumni, Reynold Peterson (Class of 2024) studying engineering at the University of Newcastle and Layla Oliver (Class of 2025) studying medicine at the University of New South Wales.

Qantas NextGen Aviators Program - Celebrating Simon and Angus

Our year 10 students, Angus Gibson and Simon Vivas-Gutierrez recently had the opportunity to attend the Qantas NextGen Aviators Program – Engineering Immersion School Holiday Program. The program gave students valuable insight into the aviation industry and the many pathways available within engineering and aircraft maintenance.

Throughout the experience, Angus and Simon participated in a range of hands-on activities, explored aviation technology, and heard directly from industry professionals at Qantas. They were also able to gain a greater understanding of the skills, study pathways, and career opportunities involved in the aviation sector.

The program was an excellent experience for both students and has further strengthened their interest in STEM and aviation-related careers.
