Careers News 2026 Term 3 Week 6
By Janine Ryan, Career Pathways Advisor
Year 10 Career Days
Our Year 10 students started Term 3 with great momentum during our signature Year 10 Career Exploration Days. Students participated in a range of activities designed to explore their interests, personal strengths and career personalities, while investigating post-school pathways including university, TAFE, vocational education and training, apprenticeships and traineeships.
A highlight was our BDC Year 10 Career Expo, which featured a diverse range of local businesses, universities and education providers, including TAFE NSW and Southern Cross University. Students had the opportunity to meet with exhibitors, ask questions and gather valuable information to help inform their Year 11 and 12 subject selections and future career pathways.
It has been wonderful working more closely with our Year 10 cohort at the beginning of the term. They represented themselves exceptionally well and received many positive comments from our exhibitors. A huge thank you to our Year 10 students and our wonderful exhibitors for contributing to another successful Career Expo.
Avondale University Visit
Students were treated to a visit from Avondale University, who provided an informative presentation exploring university pathways, course offerings and scholarship opportunities, including free accommodation for first-year students in 2027.
For our Year 12 students considering careers in education, nursing, business, outdoor leadership or counselling, Avondale may be worth exploring. The university also offers outdoor leadership courses that can provide pathways into further study, including education.
Year 12 University Early Entry Applications
It’s definitely go time for our Class of 2026 students considering university study in 2027 and beyond, with many direct early entry applications closing soon.
Students and parents are encouraged to visit the website of each preferred university for information about application requirements and closing dates.
The Schools Recommendation Scheme (SRS) through the Universities Admissions Centre (UAC) closes on 11 September. For more information, visit the UAC Schools Recommendation Scheme.
