People, Purpose, and Culture: Shaping The BDC Way

At Bishop Druitt College, we know that an organisation’s greatest asset is its people. Just as in any thriving business or institution, the strength of our school community relies on attracting individuals who bring energy, fresh perspectives, and deep purpose to their work.

In education, great staff don't simply teach; they shape culture and enrich everyone around them. Today, I am proud to share insights from three of our outstanding educators who demonstrate what happens when passion aligns with opportunity.

Caitlin Walpole – Aboriginal Education Officer & Visual Arts Teacher

• On Inspiration: “I love watching our youngest students engage with Gumbaynggirr language; they bring such fun energy! In Visual Arts, it’s a privilege to provide students with a glimpse of Aboriginal culture in the art world.”
• The BDC Advantage: “The support here allows me to build immersive, cross-curricular programs so all students learn about the Gumbaynggirr Wajaarr (Country) they live and play on.”
• The Challenge: “Finding engaging ways to educate staff and students keeps me constantly evolving. I’m excited to implement new culturally safe initiatives that benefit our entire school community on our path of reconciliation.”

Jason Goode – Year 6 Teacher & Performing Arts

• On Inspiration: “Music and performance bring creativity, energy, teamwork, and joy into the classroom. I love seeing students step outside their comfort zones, express themselves and experience the excitement of performing together.”

Andrea Wiffen – Head of Secondary (Wellbeing & Hands-On Learning)

• On Inspiration: “I’ve always been curious about the unique stories each student and staff member carries, which is why I prioritise deeply listening to their experiences. Building that authentic trust first actually makes strategic leadership smoother, as real decisions are grounded in genuine connection.”
• The BDC Advantage: “BDC’s culture gives me the freedom to shape support to individual journeys rather than applying one-size-fits-all policies. That flexibility lets me turn personal insights into meaningful, school-wide growth.”
