Performing Arts News 2026 Term 3 Week 3

Welcome back to Term 3! I hope everyone had a well deserved break and ready for a busy term ahead. Already, we have had a number of events both within the College and the community with many more planned in the coming weeks.

Leadership Induction Service

Thank you to all of the Performing Arts students who performed at the Leadership Induction Service on Thursday 23rd July (Week 1). Our Primary Choir did an amazing job leading the singing of the School Song and Lord of the Dance as well as their beautiful performance of In Christ Alone. Thank you to Zitong Lin (Year 9) who accompanied the choir for their performances and also provided background music during the serving of Communion. Thank you also to our Year 11 Music students who performed “A Million Dreams” during the service. What a great way to start the term for Performing Arts students! 

Seen Yas On Show

On Thursday 23rd July (Week 1), our newly inducted Arts Captains, Matthew Healy and Katie Hodgson opened the 2026 Seen Yas on Show and were MCs during the performance component of the event in the Theatre that night. They did a remarkable job as their first official duties in their newly appointed roles. Thank you to all of the students who performed at this event. It was a great showcase of Dance, Drama and Music Major Works in preparation for external HSC examinations this term.

HSC Dance Practical Examination

Dance is the first Performing Arts subject to have their HSC Major Works assessed by NESA. The examiners will be onsite on Monday 17th August from 11am to 4:30pm. The Dance Studio and O1 will be re-roomed on that day and access around the front of the Dance studio will be roped off. In the afternoon, we would also ask for students, staff and parents to be mindful of noise in Parent Pick Up as the examinations will still be occurring after school hours.

HSC Drama Practical Examination

The HSC Drama Practical Examination has been sent through this week as well. NESA will be at the College on Friday 4th September from 8:30am - 1:40pm to assess the HSC Drama Practical Examinations in the Theatre. 

We wish all of our Dance and Drama students the best of luck with their final preparations for their examinations.

Taster Days

Thank you to the Performing Arts staff who offered Taster Sessions for our Year 10 students, providing an insight into what Senior Dance, Drama and Music courses entail. Students were receptive and showed great interest in studying Stage 6 Performing Arts courses.

Bad Romance

Congratulations to Ava Galway (Year 10), Hayley Evans (BDC Teacher and Bad Romance Creative Co-Director) & Ella-Grace Chowdury (BDC Alumni) on their successful completion of Bad Romance - a commercial dance show inspired by the life and times of Lady Gaga.

The dynamic 90-minute performance, featuring 8 dancers has just wrapped up an 8 show, 3 week season, touring Coffs Harbour, Taree and Byron Bay and was developed by Woolgoolga Performing Arts Studio over the past year and produced by Naidu Theatre Company. 

Congratulations to Ava, Hayley and Ella-Grace!

HICES

Congratulations to students Finn Hunton (Year 10), Sofia Bravo (Year 9), Oliver Day (Year 9), Joshua Wing (Year 8), Lucas Tai (Year 7), Margot Lawlor (Year 6), Theo Williams (Year 6), Eido Roques (Year 6) and Angela Li (Year 6) who were successful in gaining positions in the upcoming HICES Music Festival in Sydney from Sunday 16th August - Thursday 20th August. The students will travel to Sydney with Mr Joshua Jeremy and Ms Sandra Smith where they will participate in a range of rehearsals with extensive repertoire and will then perform in a concert at the Sydney Town Hall. This is a wonderful opportunity for our Music students.

Sydney Symphony Singers!

Congratulations to Penelope Dal Pozzo (Year 9), Ingrid Acheson (Year 8), Charlie McLauchlan (Year 9), Lani Parsons (Year 9) and Finn Hunton (Year 10) who auditioned and were successful in gaining positions in a choir that will be supporting the Sydney Symphony Orchestra in an upcoming concert at the Sydney Opera House, supporting Australian band The Cat Empire. These students had to submit a video audition to be considered and so it is wonderful news that they were all accepted. Well done to our Secondary Vocal students.

Michael Dolce

Thank you to Michael Dolce from The Voice who visited the College to run a series of masterclasses and workshops with our secondary music students. Michael not only provided feedback on student performances throughout the day, he also provided some valuable information on guitar tones and use of amplifiers and recordings. Thank you to Michael and the students who participated in the workshops.

HSC Trials

Good luck to our Year 12 students as they sit their trial HSC exams.

The Tempest

Congratulations to the CHATS production team who recently performed  Shakespear’s The Tempest at the Jetty Theatre. The cast featured BDC students and alumni. 

Secondary Assembly

Thank you to Ollie Bond (Year 12) who performed “Ocean” by John Butler on guitar for the Week 2 Secondary Assembly.
