Sports News 2026 Term 3 Week 3

Basketball
The Open Girls basketball team competed at the NSW All Schools State Championships in Sydney over two days.
The girls played exceptionally well, securing several impressive wins against strong opposition. Unfortunately, they narrowly missed out on a place in the semi-finals following a thrilling game that went right down to the wire.
We are incredibly proud of this team, their hard work, resilience and determination. They continue to fight until the final whistle and will now focus on training and preparing for the Australian School Championships later this year.
A special shout-out to our Year 12 students, Maddy Potter and Anna Crawley, as well as our two Year 7 athletes, Millie Cook and Leah Lynwood, who stepped up and competed brilliantly in the Opens team.
Netball
Another successful year at the Netball NSW Schools Cup Day! Both our Years 7/8 Boys and Years 9/10 Boys teams progressed to the Regional Finals, showcasing great flair, athleticism, and teamwork throughout the day.
A special mention to our Years 9/10 Girls Red team, who faced a tough draw and narrowly missed second place by just a couple of goals after a strong contest against Coffs Harbour High School.
Congratulations to our Years 7/8 Girls Red team, who remained undefeated all day and head into the Regional Finals full of confidence. Well done also to our Years 7/8 Girls Blue team, who finished first in their pool and earned a crossover final, but unfortunately went down to SJPC in a hard-fought match.
Finally, a shout-out to our Years 9/10 Girls Blue team, who put in a valiant effort throughout the day and represented the school with pride.
Congratulations to all players and staff on a fantastic day of netball and best of luck to those teams progressing to the Regional Finals!
AFL
On Tuesday, 9th April, BDC took part in the AFL Paul Kelly Cup under sunny skies and perfect playing conditions. We were proud to send two teams to compete, a mixed team and a boys team, who both showed great determination and sportsmanship throughout the day.
Each team managed to secure a win in their pool games, displaying fantastic teamwork and effort on the field. Although neither team progressed to the next round, they represented BDC with pride and had a great day of fun and footy.
Well done to all players and a big thank you to parents and staff who came along to cheer them on!
Futsal
On a day filled with energy and excitement, Bishop Druitt College proudly sent more than 50 students to compete in the inaugural Grafton School Futsal Competition 2026. Designed to build local interest and participation in the sport, the tournament featured a strong BDC presence, with seven teams taking to the courts: three U12 Boys teams, one U12 Girls team, two U10 Boys teams and one U10 Girls team. The excitement was palpable, particularly for many of our younger students who were experiencing the thrill of a competitive tournament for the very first time.
Bishop Druitt College performed exceptionally well across all age groups, demonstrating impressive skill, teamwork and outstanding sportsmanship. In a remarkable achievement, our U10 Girls team stepped up to compete in the U12 division and performed exceptionally well. They even defeated our own U12 Girls team in both matches leading up to the final. However, the U12 Girls responded when it mattered most, claiming victory in a closely contested and thrilling final.
The Boys divisions were equally competitive, with every team proving they had a genuine chance of taking home the title. In the U12 Boys competition, the BDC White team emerged victorious after a hard-fought and incredibly close final. Not to be outdone, our U10 Boys displayed impressive skill and determination throughout the day, with the BDC Red team deservedly crowned champions of their division.
It was a fantastic day of futsal, and every student should be incredibly proud of the way they represented Bishop Druitt College.
Athletics
What a fantastic day of sport and school spirit! Nearly 100 students proudly represented BDC at the NCIS Athletics Carnival in Kingscliff, showcasing outstanding sportsmanship, enthusiasm, and talent throughout the day.
The carnival began bright and early, with students departing BDC at 4:30am and returning home around 7:30pm, tired but full of pride after a beautiful, hot day in the sun.
Highlights included several personal best performances across both track and field events, as well as strong relay results that reflected excellent teamwork and determination.
Well done to all students involved. You represented BDC with pride, spirit, and outstanding sportsmanship!
