BDC Alumni 2005 Jay Bainbridge - musician and lead vocalist with 'Golding'

Wednesday, 10 Nov 2021

Jay was enrolled at BDC in 2003 and showed a real talent in surfing. In 2004 he came 2nd in 13 years shortboard at NSCA Surfing Comp, in 2005 he represented BDC at NSW Schools Surfing Regional Championships as well as the State Surfing Titles at Ballina 2005.

His musical talents were revealed around this time when he studied Music 1 and had voice lessons with our voice teacher Cathryn Burgess. He had a passion for music which sparked his career.

In 2005 he gained 1st place in the Rock & Pop section of the Coffs Harbour Eisteddfod. In his final year at BDC, Jay formed a group called Nine Sons of Dan who were State finalists in the Global Battle of the Bands in Brisbane in 2008.

The band visited BDC a few years after he graduated where they played in a concert for the secondary school. Jay has spent a lot of time developing his music. He has even spent some time in the states working with amazing people in the music industry and developing his craft.

In 2011 the group toured Australia with Jay as lead singer Jay Bainbridge. They appeared on Video Hits in 2011:

He is currently based on the Gold Coast and his latest musical endeavours is in a duo called Golding. They have just released their latest single '"Boxing Underwater." Jay is the lead vocalist and you can see him in the clip wearing black overalls.
