BDC Barracudas bounce into basketball for 2022

Thursday, 25 Nov 2021

The BDC Barracudas Sporting Club today launched the playing strip for their new basketball teams in an exciting addition of the sport to the club.

The new playing strip is a rebrand of the former school-based Bishop Druitt College teams and is designed to enhance the profile of the Sporting Club and create additional opportunities for basketball players from across the region to get behind the BDC Barracudas.

“We’re really excited to welcome basketball players under the BDC Barracudas Sporting Club banner, across both junior and senior youth competitions,” said BDC Barracudas Club president and Bishop Druitt College principal, Nick Johnstone.

“Just like the barracuda, our Club is fierce and agile - and while we’re only heading into our second year of operations, we’re really proud of what we’ve achieved so far, and what’s to come”.

The BDC Barracudas launched in 2021 with the support of founding partner, Bishop Druitt College, with 90 players across MiniRoos (football/soccer) and rugby union.

This expansion into a new sport is part of the Club’s plans to provide grassroots team sporting opportunities across a broad range of sporting codes for the greater Coffs Coast youth community.

“The BDC Barracudas is in a major growth phase - going from 6 teams across two sports in its foundation year 2021, to 28 teams across 5 sports in 2022,” said Mr Johnstone.

In 2022, the BDC Barracudas will be running football from under 6s to under 8s; rugby union from under 8s to under 14s and girls rugby union at under 15s; basketball from under 6s to under 19s in boys and girls and also touch football in junior and social touch football. We are even running a netball taster program later in 2022.

“I’m very excited by this announcement today, with the addition of basketball to our suite of sports, the BDC Barracudas expects to host more than 300 players across five sporting codes in 2022. We are a welcoming club with loads of opportunities for players and their parents.”

To register your interest to play with the BDC Barracudas in the junior and senior basketball competitions complete Expression of Interest Form by Friday 4 February 2022.

The BDC Barracudas is sponsored by Bishop Druitt College, O’Keeffe Contractors, McGrath Real Estate and Hoys Health and Wellness.
