Year 12

I caught up with Year 12 this week to talk about post-school options, including looking at the pros and cons of University vs VET (TAFE Apprenticeship) pathways.

I also advised Year 12 of the different pathways into university, particularly Early Entry pathways.

I have already seen a number of Year 12’s this term for individual career counselling.  Some have a firm plan of what they would like to do, while others are still unsure.  That is perfectly fine!  Our sessions are all about assisting students to explore their options and setting some goals.

Please encourage your Year 12 child to make an appointment asap.  Parents are most welcome to book in also.

Captains get a seat at the table to contribute to Educational research

Captains Mali, Rylee, Abdul and Mikal were invited to join the NSW Council of Deans Roundtable discussion to help formulate an Agenda to identify the big questions and important ideas in contemporary educational research.

Our students were part of a group of 70 education providers from around the state who were asked to give feedback on a range of important issues in education.  Opinions from our students were highly sought after from all sectors and our intrepid captains were considered and articulate in offering their feedback.

Year 11 Careers

It was great to meet and chat with some parents at our Year 11 Information Evening recently.  I am looking forward to working with Year 11 to follow on from the careers work we started with this cohort in Year 9 and 10.   We will continue to explore what careers suit their interests, skills, values and personality.

Elsa Dixon Traineeship Success

Congratulations to Year 11 Jenna Haley who has scored herself a school based traineeship with Mid North Coast Area Health.  Jenna will study Cert III in Health at TAFE and work at Coffs Harbour Base Hospital one day per week as part of her HSC pattern of study.  Jenna will finish Year 12 with an ATAR, her HSC, A certificate 111 in nursing and valuable hands on experience in the health system.  Your future is looking bright Jenna!

Our first session for the year will be a visit to the College from the Australian Defence Force.  There are a wide range of careers available in the defence forces (not just pilot or soldier) for males and females, including many trades, medical and logistics jobs.  Come along and get the facts!

Student Internship Opportunity - possibly leading to full time employment

I have a local employer offering an Internship in Interior Design.

An Internship is an unpaid work placement within the host business, usually for 1 day per week across 2 terms.  The Intern will be involved in learning and gaining experience in the Interior Design function of the business.  Successful completion of the Internship could lead to full time employment and training for the right person.

If interested in this opportunity, please contact Gina Driscoll as soon as possible.
