Bishop Druitt College was selected as a key partner to help award the new prestigious $8000 Southern Cross University Chancellor's Scholarship to a well-deserving high performer within the Year 12 cohort. SCU is celebrating their 25th anniversary and believe the Chancellor's Scholarships help recognise the best students in our region. This is a selective program only available to 30 NSW schools at present.

The inaugural Southern Cross University Chancellor's Scholarship has been awarded to Israel Degle, a young man that demonstrated outstanding performance in Year 12 studies and who has made a significant contribution to the community.

Israel Degle a 2019 valedictorian was presented with the scholarship by Dr Grant Cairncross from Southern Cross University, BDC Assistant Principal Mr Simon Doyle and BDC Chair of College Council Mr David Ford.

‘Our partnership with SCU is most welcome and it will assist Israel in his first year at SCU. Israel gives of himself freely to help younger students and college staff. He is often performing in any number of ensembles as a drummer and he is a keen artist. Israel is an outstanding young man.’ Mr Simon Doyle, BDC Assistant Principal and Head of Secondary.

The Valedictorian Assembly for the Class of 2019 was the biggest secondary assembly this year with our Kindergarten students singing their farewell to the HSC students and presenting them with a hand made flower as they left for one final time through the traditional guard of honour. If there were any parent or carers with dry eyes after hearing the beautiful words from Kindergarten, the mixed emotions surfaced again as the bagpipes commenced and these beautiful young adults commenced their walk through the guard of honour.

Each valedictorian moved through the whole school as every student lined the path as a sign of respect to these outstanding young adults. Our college community sent Year 12 off with the very best wishes for their HSC preparation and their exciting future as world prepared leaders.

Success at the Valedictorian  Assembly included: Israel Degle Southern Cross University Chancellor's Scholarship ($8000), Assistant Principal’s Futures Award to Evenezer Gebremedhin, Parents and Friends Leadership Trophy Keanu Chapman, Terry Muldoon Award for Learning, Resilience and Commitment and Caltex Best All Rounder, ADF Long Tan Leadership and Teamwork Award and Most Improved were awarded to Israel Degle, College Service Award Tia Kang, Coastal Wardrobes and Kitchens Excellence in Work Placement Award to Chloe Mann and Most Improved Female to Sabina Nilsson.

Outstanding academic success was recognised through the 2019 Principal Awards for HSC Course work in Year 12 and these were:

3rd place in HSC course work: Lilli Mosco-Klipin

2nd place in HSC course work: Emma Serisier

1st place in HSC course work: Dheeraj Adusumalli

Bishop Druitt College is proud of all our valedictorians. With 13 students who were recognised as Foundation Students who commenced at BDC from Kindergarten and over $5000 raised for Shave for a Cure from the Class of 2019, we wish them all well for their exciting futures.
