Bishop Druitt College received some impressive results from the North Coast da Vinci Decathlon in Port Macquarie in May.

On Tuesday 13 May a record number of 5 teams from Years 9, 10 and 11 from BDC competed amongst 31 teams, working collaboratively to solve various challenges across a range of academic disciplines, including; Science, Creative Producers, English, Ideation, Mathematics, Engineering, Art and Poetry, Cartography, Code Breaking and Legacy.

All the BDC teams achieved some great results but particular mention goes to the Year 11 team who came 1st in Maths, 1st in Cartography, 2nd in Science and 3rd in Code Breaking, 4th in Art and Poetry and 5th overall, and also to the Year 10 team that came 2nd overall!

On Wednesday 14 May, 3 BDC teams from Years 7 and 8 competed and achieved places in Science, Code Breaking, English and Maths. Our Year 7 team was the highest scoring team from Year 7 on the day, achieving 4th overall.

On Thursday 15 May, it was the Years 5 and 6's turn. The 3 teams in this division travelled down, competing against 27 other teams.

The Year 5 team placed 13th overall, scoring in the top 10 in 6 subjects including 4th in Science, 6th in English and 7th in Cartography. One of our Year 6 teams placed 14th overall achieving 7th in Art & Poetry, 8th in Cartography and 9th in Maths.

The other Year 6 team placed top 8 in 9 of 10 subjects: 1st in Maths, Cartography and Engineering, 3rd in Science, 4th in Codebreaking and Legacy, 5th in Art & Poetry, 6th in English, and 8th in Ideation. This earned them a spectacular 1st place overall, a trophy and the chance to compete in the State Finals held at Knox Grammar School in Sydney.

Unfortunately, this trip had to be cancelled due to extreme weather and flooding, but this was a huge achievement for only the second year of competing in the Year 5 and 6 division of the competition.
