Thursday, 16 Feb 2023

Otis Carey is an alumnus of BDC from 2003 to 2005, Year 11.

Since 2015, Otis, a pro surfer has entered the Australian Surfing Titles, winning many events.

In 2019, Otis signed with Billabong on a surfing, art, and fashion design deal that will weave traditional indigenous culture with contemporary Australian surf. His Gumbaynggirr artworks were on display at the China Heights Gallery in Surrey Hills. His first solo art exhibition was titled ‘NGURAALAMI’, an Indigenous word meaning ‘Home’, which looks at Carey’s connection to country. Otis has two Facebook pages and features on several websites.

He was one of 34 finalists for the Art Gallery of NSW Wynne Prize.

Inspired by Otis Carey’s childhood ocean playground of Macauleys Beach and the “Gumgali Yuludarla” (Black Goanna) dreamtime story, our newest collaboration with the celebrated artist/surfer has arrived.
