Welcome back to Term 3! Another busy term with our focus on Year 12s and their HSC practical examinations as well as AMEB exams.

Our Secondary Assemblies for this term have started off with some amazing performances. Imogen Daymond began the term singing “Only Love Can Hurt Like This” by Paloma Faith.

You can view her performance here:

James Rothacker performed acoustic guitar at the Secondary Assembly Week 2. He performed one of his HSC performance pieces “Cathedral Rock” by Australian Composer Gareth Koch. Thank you James!

Seen Yas on Show

Thank you to all of the Year 12 students and teachers for a wonderful Seen Yas on Show Thursday 21st July. It was a wonderful showcase of major works from our students and it was great to have Dance included in this event, with our first HSC Dance cohort presenting their dances. We wish the Year 12s the very best of luck with their HSC Practical exams. Dance is the first to be assessed with NESA visiting the College on Tuesday 16th August.

Michael Dolce from The Voice visits BDC

BDC was very fortunate to have Michael Dolce visit BDC for a Q&A session with music students and a guitar masterclass for selected guitarists on Thursday 28th July. Michael is the house guitarist on the tv show, The Voice and has played with artists such as Delta Goodrem, Keith Urban, Jessica Mauboy, Lionel Richie, Seal, Natalie Bassingthwaite and many more. Michael shared his journey with the students and encouraged them to always pursue their dreams and not to let anything stop them in their path. He spoke about taking initiative to create opportunities, practice daily, have a great attitude and expect to get a lot of knockbacks in the music industry. He was impressed with the students at the college and would love to revisit again in the future.

Thank you Michael for the great opportunity!

Year 3 Ukulele

This term, the students in Year 3 have been learning to play the ukulele. The students have been learning to play simple chords and have enjoyed playing and singing along with the popular songs.

HSC Practical Exams for Performing Arts

It’s a nerve-wracking and exciting time for our HSC Performing Arts students, as they get closer to their final practical assessments for their HSC. NESA have released the dates for Dance - Tuesday 16th August and Drama - Monday 29th August. Music is still to be released. For students and parents, NESA have released an updated document regarding HSC-smart Practical and Performance Exam protocols. You can read this announcement here:

2022 Practical Performance Exam COVID-19 Protocols

We ask that the college community supports our Performing Arts students on the days of their assessments by staying away from the Dance Studio, Theatre and Music Department and to minimise noise.

Good luck to our Performing Arts class of 2022!

AMEB Exams

We have had quite a few students sit their AMEB exams in woodwind and piano in recent weeks. The feedback from the examiners has been positive and we look forward to receiving the results in the coming weeks. A special mention to Mrs Muelenbroeks who sat her very first AMEB exam on Saxophone!

High Performance Performing Arts Program

We have many amazing Performing Arts students at the college and to recognise this, we have started a High Performance Program for Performing Arts students which runs alongside the current High Performance Sporting Program. The first inductees were recognised at Secondary assembly last week and include Marisol Taylor (Music), Digby Greenaway (Music), Ila Greenaway (Music), Sofia Dal Pozzo (Music), Jaela Hibbard (Dance) and Olivia O’Rielly (Dance). This program is evolving but it is great to be able to recognise the efforts of our Performing Arts students at the college.
