What a busy fortnight our Performing Arts students have had with the Eisteddfod underway. We have had excellent representation across Music and Drama so far, with Dance happening as I finalise this newsletter article. I attended as many sessions across the sections as I could and was so proud of all BDC students. They performed with confidence, great preparation and on the schools days, they represented the college with pride. Congratulations to all students who entered any of the sections in the Eisteddfod. And thank you to the teachers that supported you along the way. For results so far, please see below:
Thank you to Liz Jameson and Bonnie Nilsson (two of our piano teachers) who entered students in the piano sections of the Eisteddfod. There were a lot of extra hours given to these students to prepare them for their performances. Thank you!

The Year 7 students have been enjoying drama this year. As part of the course, they had to complete a research task this term. Students were to research the use of comedy in Greek Theatre, Shakespeare, Commedia dell’Arte and Slapstick and present their findings in an interesting way. The students were creative with their findings, either submitting a project or an online presentation including podcasts, short films, Minecraft worlds and Scratch coded content. You can see some of their amazing work below. Well done year 7!
We have been fortunate enough to have Mrs Corey Lewis teach some of the Stage 1 music classes this term while Ms Muelenbroeks is on leave. 1T have been learning about the musical concept Pitch this term and have been exploring this on music instruments including the glockenspiels. You can see the concentration on their faces in the video below:
Year 1 also love Dance. They are fortunate enough to be able to use our beautiful dance studio for their classes. You can see the enjoyment in their faces in the video below:

Congratulations to Zoya Dryburgh (9) who was successful in gaining a place in the State Honours Ensemble Program (SHEP) for violin. She attended the program last weekend at Griffith University and said she learned a lot from attending.
Congratulations Zoya!
Congratulations to Marisol Taylor (10), Campbell Scott (9) and Olivia Hoare (9) who auditioned and successfully gained a position in the Australian Honours Ensemble Program (AHEP) to be held at Griffith University in September. This is a wonderful opportunity for our top musicians to be part of tutorials and rehearsals with tutors from the Queensland Conservatorium of Music. We look forward to hearing about their experiences in Term 4.
Georgie Chorley is our amazing brass tutor. She loves all things brass and teaches all brass instruments. Read all about her below:
My name is Georgie Chorley.
I’ve been teaching Brass at BDC for the past 5 years since moving to the mid north coast.
I have taught as a studio teacher in NSW for the past 13 years.
I studied a bachelor of classical trumpet, and spent my early years playing in and around Sydney, before becoming a regional freelance player.
I have two main original bands which I tour and perform with, as well as play regularly at the local Jazz haunt, The Spareroom Sawtell.
Although I love the classical genre, my real love is Jazz and alternate. In the past couple of years I’ve formed brass ensembles and a rock band here at BDC.
This year, I’ve teamed up with Bass teacher Danny Stitt to begin the Jazz Ensemble,
Thursday lunchtimes in the Music block.
There is wonderful support here at BDC; nurturing all students in different music programs, and it’s ever evolving!
When it comes to 1:1 teaching, I want to find out what each student enjoys about music, and I always try and cater to their passions whether that be sitting exams, composing, performing, or simply wanting to learn pieces that they feel connected to.
I really love what I do, and I’m always up for a chat about all things Music.
Come and say hi to me on Thursdays.
