Wearing Our Values with Pride

As we step into the second half of the year, I want to take a moment to reflect on something that speaks volumes about our culture here at Bishop Druitt College, our school uniform.

The BDC uniform is more than just what we wear, it’s how we present ourselves to the world. When students wear it with care and pride, they carry the values of our school community with them: respect, responsibility, and belonging. It helps set the tone for learning, promotes equality, and fosters a sense of unity that can be seen and felt throughout the campus.

Each polished black lace-up shoe, each College hat worn outdoors, and every neatly tied hair ribbon says, “I’m proud to be part of this community.”

Uniform Expectations: What We Ask of Families

To help maintain consistency and uphold our high standards, we’d like to gently remind families of the following expectations:

- Footwear must be formal black leather lace-up shoes. Joggers, skate shoes or slip-ons are not permitted.

Socks must be official College socks.

College hats are to be worn at all times when outside.

Jewellery should be minimal and conservative. One small stud or sleeper per ear (no larger than 2cm from the base of the earlobe) is permitted, along with a watch. Discreet, religious necklaces (like a small cross) may be worn. One simple ring or bracelet may also be acceptable if conservative in style.

Make-up and nail polish are not allowed. Students wearing either will be asked to remove it.

Hair should be tied back if shoulder-length or longer, with navy, black, white, or red hair ties only. Extreme styles or colour of hair are not permitted.

Follow-Up Process for Incorrect Uniform

We understand that busy mornings can sometimes lead to forgotten items or missed details. If we notice an ongoing or significant uniform inconsistency, such as footwear that isn't quite right, visible makeup, or jewellery that doesn't align with our guidelines, we'll reach out via email. This allows us to partner with you to address the concern and ensure your child feels confident and supported in meeting the College's expectations. Our goal is to work together to help every student shine and feel proud to represent Bishop Druitt College.

If you’re having difficulty sourcing uniform items, please don’t hesitate to reach out or visit our well-stocked Uniform Shop for assistance.

Staff Update

As some of you may already be aware, Mr Richard Smith has moved on from his role at the College. We sincerely thank him for his contributions to our students and school community, and we wish him every success in his next adventure. He will be missed, and we look forward to hearing about his future achievements.
