GENERAL
Water Safety Programs

Years 2 and 4 are both getting into the swim with their programs going well. It is so good to be able to include this vital skill as part of our sport curriculum.

Next week Year 6 will take part in their surf safety program.

OUTDOOR EDUCATION
Year 11 Camp

Year 11 had 2 days of outdoor activity last week. On Monday Cottee, Hollows and Kngwarreye had a great day paddling the Nymboida River, while Murray, O’Shane and Sutherland spent time at Margaret’s Field working with their peers in team building and Rites of Passage activities, finishing the day with some highly competitive ten pin bowling.

On Tuesday they swapped activities.

These days although not the normal camp are very beneficial to the cohort as they head into their last year of schooling at BDC.

Thank you to Joel Blythe, Kate Law and Vicki Fisher, Bess-Anne Caldwell, Daniel Bartlett, James Brown, April Lord, and Nat Titcume and Simone Evans.

Year 6 camp

On Wednesday Year 6 finally got their Rites of Passage day.

There was much excitement as they headed to Margaret’s Field, that changed in trepidation as the staff stopped them at the gate and Mr Close (who will be their year coordinator for the next 6 years) sorted them into groups, you could hear their minds spinning trying to work out which group they would be put in. Once they were all grouped, Mr Close changed them around until asking them why they thought they were put in a particular group, there were some interesting answers.

After entering the circle around the fire pit and listening to instructions, they were put in their final groups, their tutor group.

It was a fun filled day learning about yourself and others in your group through games and challenges.

This program is designed to help students in their transition to secondary school.

Thank you to Mark Freeman, Terry Close, Truus Meulenbroeks, Sally Crane, Kayla Lewis, Patrick Galvin and Glenn McNeil.

Thank you to the year 10 BBQ cooks for the 3 days of outdoor ed, I couldn’t have done it without them!
