BDC Cross Country

During the last week of Term 1 we enjoyed a great Cross Country Carnival at Jetty Beach. Congratulations to all students who took part, and a special mention to our senior students for their outstanding participation and leadership on the day.

Over 1200 students shuffled to and from the beach, creating a fantastic atmosphere. There was great competition across the age groups, and in the end, strong participation in certain divisions made all the difference in the final results.

Strong Results in Tough Conditions at NCIS Cross Country

A team of 140 dedicated Bishop Druitt College students made the journey north to Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar School for the 2025 NCIS Cross Country Championships. Despite being greeted by sunny skies and great weather, the course itself offered a real challenge, with its varied terrain testing both endurance and determination.

Competitors ranged from our youngest 8/9-year-old runners right through to our experienced 17-year-old athletes. It was a day of strong performances, personal bests, and great team spirit across all age groups.

We are proud to announce that 60 students have qualified for the NSWCIS Cross Country Championships at Homebush later this term — a fantastic achievement that reflects both their talent and hard work.

Congratulations to all who competed and best of luck to our qualifiers heading to Homebush!

Bill Turner Cup

Round 2: 8 May 2025 BDC v Orara High at Coffs Synthetics.

The Under 15 boys football team played Orara in the second round of the Bill Turner Cup recently. The weather had not been great, so we played on the synthetics. During the opening moments, we had strong chances with Frank Lane and Chace Kadwell creating opportunities in behind the Orara defence. However, we were not able to take the lead and going into the halftime break, teams were locked at 0-0.

After the break the boys really stepped up with some beautiful passing movements and continued to create chances. Frank was able to calmly finish just after halftime to take the lead, before he made it 2-0 not long after. We won the ball back on halfway, and passed the ball through the Orara team with Will Parmenter crossing the ball for Frank to tap in his second goal. Orara pressed higher but our defence stood strong and shut down their dangerous players to limit any chances.

We continued to create chances late in the second half, with Eli Franke looking to score. He did take his chance late in the game to make the score 3-0 and a strong win for the boys who move into round 3 against one of the Grafton schools.

Bill Turner Trophy Football Competition

BDC v Coffs Harbour High School.

On Thursday, April 3, our talented girls football team participated in the Bill Turner Trophy Football competition, facing off against Coffs Harbour High School at the Coffs Synthetics field.

Despite not having had a chance to train together, our team showed exceptional teamwork and determination, quickly adapting to new teammates from Year 7.

Throughout the game, they impressively maintained most of the possession and created numerous goal-scoring opportunities. Unfortunately, luck wasn't on our side this time, with the opposing goalkeeper making some outstanding saves that kept their team from defeat. Considering the challenging wet conditions and minimal preparation, our girls delivered an incredible performance, clearly demonstrating their potential. They may not have won the match, but they certainly emerged as winners in experience, resilience, and teamwork.

There is no doubt that with a bit more familiarity and practice as a team, victories will soon follow! Well done, girls - we are proud of you!

CIS Football Cup

Open Girls v Lindisfarne Anglican Grammar School.

At the end of last term our open girls team travelled to Tweed Heads to play Lindisfarne in the thrid round of the CIS Cup. With a settled team there was a quiet confidence that this team would continue their excellent play from the previous round.

On a windy, rainy day and a heavy field the girls started well but could not convert their chances. The game then swung the other way with lots of defending going on, and likewise LAGS could not score. It took a late burst or a couple of goals by captain, Charlotte Bunny, to settle things down in our favour. A goal just before half time was a great way to go into the break.

The second half was again hard fought with goals traded back and forth. The game ended with a hard fought but comfortable 5-2 win. It was a great opportunity to try some of the girls in different positions and see what depth and options we have.

Well played everyone and congratulations to player of the match, Maddy Graham, who had an amazing game at right back, nothing got past her! And a big thanks to Nat Titcume, our trusty driver.

This win secured our spot in the quarter finals which sees us heading to Sydney to take on Pymble Ladies College, the current holders of the Open Girls CIS Football Cup.

2025 CIS Secondary Swimming Championships

On Monday 2 May, 13 BDC swimmers headed to Sydney as a part of the NCIS Swim Team to compete at the CIS Secondary Swimming Championships at the prestigious Sydney Aquatic Centre, Homebush, over 2 days.

BDC were proud to have 2 junior relays competing in both the medley and freestyle relays.

Many of our individual swimmers recorded top 10 placings and/or Personal Best times in their events. Competing against highly trained, accomplished swimmers from Sydney and surrounds, the BDC swimmers are to be extremely proud of their achievements.

Congratulations to: Logan Anderson, Estelle Beachtold, Felix Benson, Sofia Bravo, Saul Easman, Matthew Healy, Bayley Johnson, Zara Johnson, Harrison Jordan, Edward Neal, Archie Peters, Isaac Ryan and Emily Straker on their achievements.

2025 NCIS Primary Netball Championships

The Primary NCIS Netball team showed wonderful camaraderie and tenacity at the Primary NCIS Gala Day. Winning 3 out of their 5 games, they supported each other beautifully and showed some slick skills in attack and dodged defence throughout the day. They also showed great perseverance against some tough opposition.

The day was highlighted by the selection of Harriet Ross, Izzie Skelton and Kalani Billing in the NCIS Representative teams, who will travel to Sydney at the end of May. We wish them every success at the CIS Carnival.
