Basketball - NSW State All Schools

This year we had two senior teams competing against teams that have travelled from right across New South Wales.

The first day both of our teams played two games, their first game against St Luke’s and their second against Illawarra Grammar. We finished the day with both teams having one loss, one win. This result was enough to see the senior girls progress to an elimination final on day 2, while the senior boys still needed a pool game win to secure a spot.

Day 2 the girls started strong with a win further cementing a game four. Unfortunately, the boys went down in their final pool game against Avondale College and played no further part in the game.

Both teams finished the All Schools State competition in 5th position and are committed with their coaches to work hard for the next Nationals competition later in the year.

Futsal - Coffs Coast School Futsal Titles

Day 1 - Wednesday 28 May, Coffs Harbour

U14 Girls

What an incredible day of futsal for our Under 14 Girls team at the recent tournament! The girls kicked off the day with a slightly shaky start against Christian Community College as they settled into their positions and built team chemistry. While the match was closer than expected, they held their nerve and secured a solid win to begin the day on a positive note.

Our second game against Bellingen tested the team’s resilience. After going down 3-0 early, the girls showed incredible grit and determination to claw their way back to 3-2. Although the match ended in a narrow 3-2 loss, their never-give-up attitude was on full display and truly inspiring to watch.

From that point on, the team only grew stronger. In their third game against John Paul College, the girls moved the ball brilliantly, communicated with confidence, and capitalised on their chances to earn a convincing win. This victory set up a semi-final rematch against the same team.

The semi-final was intense and tightly contested. Despite being down 1-0, the girls continued to push, creating opportunities and defending with heart. Their efforts paid off in the final three minutes when they scored a dramatic equaliser. With the score level, we headed into a nerve-wracking penalty shootout - but our team handled the pressure like true professionals. A special mention must go to our goalkeeper, who didn’t let a single goal in during the shootout and played an instrumental role in getting us through to the final.

The grand final was a culmination of everything the girls had learned and built throughout the day. Facing Christian Community College once again, they took control from the outset and delivered a dominant 4-0 performance that was a joy to watch.

As their coach, I genuinely cannot express how proud I am of each and every player. Their commitment, sportsmanship, and positive team spirit made today not only a success but also an absolute pleasure to be part of. Congratulations, girls - you’ve done your school proud!

U14 Boys

Last week, our Under 14 Boys futsal team put on a spectacular display at the Coffs Coast Futsal Titles, dominating the competition and emerging as undefeated champions! Their calm, possession-based approach was the cornerstone of their success, allowing them to control the tempo of every game and patiently create numerous scoring opportunities.

The team's masterful control was evident from their opening matches. They showcased their offensive prowess with a variety of well-worked goals, leaving opponents struggling to keep up. A highlight was their commanding 5-0 victory over close rivals JPC, followed by an even more emphatic 12-1 win against CCS, demonstrating their attacking flair and solid defence.

Their journey to the final saw them face our very own Under 13 Boys team, who had played up a division. In a spirited semi-final, the U14s secured a 4-2 victory, a testament to the depth of talent within our futsal program.

The grand final pitted our boys against a strong North Sydney school in a thrilling encounter. In a closely contested match, our U14s held their nerve, ultimately securing a 4-3 victory to claim the title! Goalkeeper Riley was a standout, making a series of incredible saves that kept the team in the game during crucial moments. The championship-winning goal came from none other than Papandrea, who sealed the victory with a decisive strike.

This was a truly outstanding performance from the entire squad, showcasing their skill, teamwork, and composure under pressure. Congratulations to the U14 Boys on their well-deserved Coffs Coast Futsal Title!

U13 Boys

A massive congratulations to our very own Bishop Druitt College Under 13 Boys futsal team for their absolutely brilliant performance at the recent Coffs Coast Futsal Titles! The boys showcased incredible heart and determination, leaving a lasting impression on everyone who watched them play.

Taking on the significant challenge of playing up an age group, our U13s stepped onto the court against older, more experienced U14s opponents with a maturity beyond their years. They didn't just compete; they truly thrived. Throughout the tournament, the team demonstrated exceptional patience and unwavering grit, sticking to a disciplined, tight formation. This strategic approach was key to their success, allowing them to absorb pressure and then unleash lightning-fast counter-attacks that frequently caught their opposition off guard.

Their hard work and smart play paid off handsomely, with the team securing an impressive record of 2 wins, 2 draws, and 2 hard-fought losses. One of the standout features of the tournament was the spirited clash against our own BDC U14 Boys team – a match played with great sportsmanship and intensity, showcasing the depth of futsal talent at our College.

The boys should be incredibly proud of their efforts. They represented Bishop Druitt College with distinction, demonstrating not only their growing futsal prowess but also fantastic teamwork and resilience. Well done, team, we can't wait to see you at the next tournament!

U12 Boys Red & Blue

BDC was thrilled to enter two Under 12 Boys teams into the competition on May 28th, and what a day it was for our young athletes!

Kicking off the tournament, our two BDC teams faced each other in an enjoyable friendly match, with the Red team emerging victorious. The Blue team then went on to secure a comfortable win against St. Augustine's School. In a nail-biting encounter, the Red team had a tight match against Corindi Public School, ending in a thrilling 3-3 draw.

The Blue team then took on Corindi in their next game, avenging the earlier draw with a strong win for BDC! BDC Red continued their winning streak with another comfortable victory against St. Augustine's.

As the finals approached, the Blue team unfortunately lost out to Corindi Public School. However, the Red team truly shone, making it all the way to the grand final to face their formidable rivals of the day, Corindi Public School.

The Red team played an absolutely incredible game, demonstrating exceptional teamwork and skill. They proved beyond a doubt that they deserved to win the day, dominating the final with a resounding 9-0 victory!

Both BDC teams represented our school with pride, showcasing excellent sportsmanship and skilful play throughout the entire competition. As a testament to their talent, many students from both teams were selected to represent our region in an upcoming competition in Brisbane – a fantastic achievement!

Congratulations to our U12 Boys on a truly outstanding performance!

Day 2 - Thursday 29 May 2025, Coffs Harbour

On Thursday our senior futsal teams took to the court in the Coffs Coast School Futsal Titles in Coffs Harbour.

With four teams competing and strong competition, our teams turned their outdoor skills to indoors. The Under 19 Boys team started the day slow but continued to improve and find their rhythm creating some excellent passages of play and scoring a number of goals. However, in the final against Bellingen HS they found it difficult to score, even though they made a number of strong chances. Unfortunately the boys lost in the end 3-1.

The Under 16 Boys also competed in the Open division and came up against bigger and stronger opponents. They competed in every match and progressed into the U16 final where they could not get the win, finishing in a respectable second place for the day.

The Under 15 Boys were undefeated on the day, with a couple of draws and winning their games. They went into the final with high expectations and they played their best game, taking first place on the day against a strong Kuringgai school who travelled up to play on the day in many divisions. Well done to the boys.

The Under 15 Girls also played in the Open division. They started slow against the older teams, however, started to click during the third game, beating a strong Kuringgai side who later went on to win the U16 division. They also played a good game against SJPC U16 team who also made the final, coming from behind to draw after being down 2-0. The girls made the semi finals in the older division and unfortunately could not progress. The team spirit was amazing throughout each game and they developed so much through each game.

Well done to all teams and players who represented the college and we wish those teams luck in the next upcoming rounds.

Netball - CIS Netball Championships

On Thursday 29 May Kalani Billing (Year 5), Harriet Ross (Year 6), and Izzie Skelton (Year 5) proudly represented NCIS at the CIS Netball Carnival in Sydney.

Throughout the day, they competed in nine challenging games, showcasing impressive skills, excellent coordination, and outstanding sportsmanship.

While they didn’t secure a win against tough competition, the girls demonstrated remarkable resilience and a never-give-up attitude.

Along the way, they formed great friendships and picked up valuable new skills. Congratulations girls.

Football - NCIS Secondary Football Championships

On Tuesday 13 May our Open Boys and Open Girls football teams contested the NCIS Football Championships at the Synthetics in Coffs Harbour.

The wet weather unfortunately meant that the U15 teams were postponed, but our open teams took to the fields in the cold and rainy conditions against some strong competition from the North Coast.

The Open Boys took on Lindisfarne, Emmanuel, and Kempsey. After having a 1-1 draw with Lindisfarne early on the day, they comfortably defeated Kempsey with the last game against Emmanuel going to determine the overall winner. In a physical and exciting game, our boys took the win 1-0 to be champions on the day.

The girls also had some tough competition taking on teams from Lindisfarne and Emmanuel.

The Open Girls also had an outstanding performance at the NCIS Gala Day, winning all of our games, despite the challenging wet weather. The rain didn’t dampen our enthusiasm or determination, and we played with great energy and teamwork throughout the day.

Although the conditions were far from ideal, we rose to the occasion, showcasing our skill and resilience in every match, winning all 4 of our games quite convincingly. The day was a good practice session for our CIS Cup next week against the holders Pymble Ladies College in Sydney. We hope to play our best and move into the next round.

From this gala day, a number of our players will now represent NCIS at the CIS Championships later this term. Congratulations to these players:

Open NCIS Boys Team: Anderson Haldon, Charlie Wood, Kai Veneziano and Vinnie Hall.

Open Girls NCIS Girls Team: Charlotte Bunny, Phoebe Oliver, Gemma Ray, Tayla Foldes, Lily MacKay and Nicola Peitrini.

Football - CIS Football Cup Quarter Final

BDC Open Girls V Pyrmont

Our journey in the 2025 CIS Cup reached an exciting milestone as we advanced to the quarter finals, a fantastic achievement that saw us travel to Sydney to compete against the reigning champions, Pymble Ladies College. Spirits were high and our team was eager to challenge ourselves at this advanced stage of the competition.

The match itself was played under wet and testing conditions, adding an extra layer of difficulty to an already formidable opponent. From the opening whistle to the final moments, our team displayed determination, resilience, and teamwork. While the final scoreline of 7-1 did not reflect the true competitiveness and intensity of the game, it is important to acknowledge the strength and skill of the Pymble side, who ultimately proved to be the stronger team on the day. Despite the result, our players can hold their heads high for the effort, sportsmanship, and composure they demonstrated under pressure.

The floods through Taree saw the team having the longest single-match football trip having to stay an extra 2 days and nights in Newcastle. What followed was 'team bonding' with some shopping, a library study session and an 11-hour trip back home.

A massive thank you to Mr Klipin and to Ms Titcume, especially for her driving skills in the challenging journey home. While the team is now out of the 2025 CIS Football Cup, we are looking forward to our 2026 campaign!
