BDC Athletics Carnival Report

The 2025 BDC Athletics Carnival was once again a highlight on the school calendar, showcasing impressive levels of participation, house spirit, and athletic effort across both our primary and secondary students.

The Primary Carnival (K–6) was held on the College grounds and featured a fantastic atmosphere from start to finish. Students enthusiastically participated in a wide range of events, with many stepping up to try something new. The day was filled with colour, energy, and encouragement, making it a true celebration of school spirit and sport.

The Secondary Carnival was split across two key events:

The House Afternoon, held at school, focused on team-based events and participation. Students rotated through various activities and concluded the afternoon with the exciting All-Age House Relay. Every event contributed participation points toward the overall house championship, encouraging students to get involved and represent their house with pride.

The Competitive Athletics Carnival, held at York Street Oval, saw over 130 students take part in a full program of track and field events. This was where the Age Champions were determined and where some outstanding individual performances were recorded. It was a highly successful day, and students represented their houses and school with energy, sportsmanship, and determination.

All three carnivals were fantastic in their own right - full of fun, competition, and house pride. A huge credit goes to our students for their willingness to be flexible, participate where they could, and support one another across all events. Their positive attitude and school spirit made the 2025 Athletics Carnival series a great success.

Football: Bill Turner Cup

Round 3: 6 June 2025  BDC v Grafton High @ Coffs Synthetics

The Under 15 Boys football team took on Grafton High in round 3 of the Bill Turner Cup. Both teams started well, sharing possession and having some chances early. BDC took advantage and started to hold the ball, playing short, quick passes between lines to set up space for the forward players. After narrowly missing some chances and the keeper making some key saves, a corner ball was kicked in by Vinnie Hall. Charlie Phillips was on the spot to tap the ball in from a loose ball. 1-0.

After halftime, Grafton surged with some strong passages getting in behind the BDC defenders. It wasn’t until late in the game when BDC added a second goal, with Eli Franke taking a cool finish in the box. Will Parmenter then added a third shortly after with some good passing and drilled home a strong shot into the bottom corner. The boys having a strong 3-0 win against a strong Grafton side.

Round 4: 18 June 2025 BDC v JPC @ Coffs Synthetics

In round 4, the boys Bill Turner Cup team took on St JPC. After two strong wins, the boys were ready to play against a strong SJPC team. In the early parts of the game, both teams had moments of possession and some chances started to come about. Riley Wood in goal was safe making no mistakes with SJPC shooting from long range. BDC were trying to build from the back and made some progress through Frank Lane and Vin Hall early but were not able to create a goal.

The second half was much the same with the game still in the balance. Some chances from both teams were not taken, but SJPC having the better of play, but not decisive enough in front of goal, with some good defending by Charlie Phillips and saves from Riley.

The game then went into drop off - golden goal. All the players were looking tired from both teams and the game opening up for both teams. BDC started to create some opportunities for Chace Kadwell and Will Parmenter, but again could not gain an advantage. After 18 mins of drop off and 3 players from both teams taken off the field, SJPC created a break away and a through ball pushed through that was well finished by the striker to take the win 1-0, only moments before going into a penalty shootout. Congratulations to both teams on a fantastic game and to our team for playing so well in all matches this year.

NCIS Primary Football

Thursday 5th June played host to the 2025 NCIS Primary Football Championships hosted by Bishop Druitt College at the Coffs Synthetics. BDC entered 3 teams in the Boys, Girls and mixed Competitions.

The girls team had a fantastic day of football winning all 4 matches. The first game was tight against Lindisfarne, but managed a 1-0 win. The second game was against Giingana Gumbaynggirr Freedom School and won 6-0. The last game against Emmanuel was again a tight contest, and the team fought hard for the 1-0 win. This put BDC in the Final against Emmanual where they once again won 1-0. Well done team!

The boys team came up against some strong opposition with games that could have gone either way. Game one was an exciting contest against Lindisfarne, narrowly losing 1-0. The second game against Blue Hills College was a comfortable win, with the 3rd game against Emmanual proving another tight contest, only to be defeated in the final minute of the game 2-1. The final game was a strong victory, with the overall placing for the BDC team at the end of the day being 3rd place.

The mixed team had a super day playing 5 exciting games. They won 3 in a row, drew one, then lost the last game in a close contest, finishing 2nd overall. Everyone played well and showed great effort and teamwork throughout. The enthusiasm and enjoyment displayed from this team made for a great day of football.

These Championships also served as a trial for the NCIS team to compete in the NCWCIS Championships in Sydney. Congratulations to Finn Adam, Blake Bottomley, Charlotte Crichton, Indi Eggeling, Noah Galway, Brooklynn Graham, Kai Hartley and Ben Milne for their selection.

Thank you to our Coaches, Mr Samuel James, Mr Ty Gillon and to BDC student coaches Eli Friel and Blair Herford.

NCIS Basketball Gala Day

BDC attended the NCIS Basketball Gala Day on 18th June, and all four of our teams put on an outstanding performance! The skill, teamwork, and sportsmanship on display were a true credit to the strength of our basketball program, the dedication of our students, and the positive culture they’ve built together.

Across the entire day, the students only lost a single game – and even that was by just a single point. A fantastic effort all around!

NSW CIS Cross Country – BDC Students Shine in Sydney

Last week, a dedicated group of Bishop Druitt College students travelled to the Sydney International Equestrian Centre to represent the North Coast Independent Schools (NCIS) at the NSW CIS Cross Country Championships.

Despite the cold start to the day, the sun was shining and spirits were high. Our students tackled a challenging course against some of the toughest competition in the state. Many runners achieved personal bests and showed incredible determination and resilience throughout their races.

It was fantastic to see our students pushing themselves in such a high-calibre event and gaining valuable experience in the process. The level of competition was intense, but our students rose to the occasion with courage and pride.

The BDC spirit was on full display as our athletes supported one another and proudly represented NCIS. A big thank you goes out to all the parents and carers who made the journey to Sydney. Your support helped make this opportunity possible for our students.

Well done to all involved!
