Sport update Term 4 Week 6

Wednesday, 15 Nov 2023

Congratulations to Year 9 students Karl Turner and Quinn Evans (HPP) on their selection in the 38-man extended squad for the North Coast Bulldogs Rugby League team.

Both boys have had a successful season in the local Group 2 Competition with Karl playing a pivotal role in his Minor and Major Premiership winning team Woolgoolga Seahorses and Quinn captaining his Sawtell Panthers side to the Grand Final where they were narrowly defeated 24-20 by Woolgoolga after a strong comeback in the second half.

Karl played in the development squad in early September and both boys represented Group 2 against Groups 1, 3 and 18 in a RISE Gala Day at the CEX International Stadium on 23rd September.

After attending a trial day with 80 players last month, they were selected for the extended squad and are now attending 3 training sessions a week in Kempsey or Port Macquarie after school and on Saturdays.

Karl and Quinn hope to make the final 25-man squad to represent North Coast in the Under 16s Andrew Johns Cup in February, the start of representative honours.

We wish them luck as they follow their rugby league dreams.

NCIS Primary Basketball

A success day for our Primary basketball teams today. Our boys team took out the gold and our girls the silver. Basketball continues to be a growth sport at BDC and our depth was on display today. We’ll done to all of our players and coaches.

Thanks Rob Linton and Chris Haynes for the training and a late call up to Mr Smith.

Secondary Schools Squash Competition

On Wednesday 8 November, a dedicated team of squash players from BDC competed in the annual Secondary Schools Squash Competition held at Korora Squash courts.

Our team hoped to better their second place from 2022 but knew it would be a challenging goal since the team was moving from the Under 15 to the Open category.

The team was Isaac (c), Oakley, Korban and Navida. Over the day they played 4 matches in the Pool A group and after a very strong start was edged out to third on points by JPC. Our only team defeat was to the eventual winners from Christian Community School.

The event was well organised and all teams were a credit to their schools. I know that Isaac, Oakley, Korban and Navida thoroughly enjoyed the competition and have all set their sights on further success next year.

Big cheers to our very own Sonny Dusting

Sonny has just scored a spot in the AFL Sydney Swans Academy.

After putting in his all during the school holidays, Sonny's hard work has paid off, and he's now part of the 2024 squad. What an incredible achievement for someone representing our community!

Junior Primary Swimming Carnival

K-2 students had a fantastic day at the Junior Primary Swimming Carnival. The students rotated between swimming and kick board races in the 25m pool, playing in the splash pool and novelty water games.

It was great to have our Year 10 Peer Support students assist and calm our nerves in the water with a lot of encouraging words.

Thank you to all the parents who attended and also took part in the water activities. It was a fun day with a lot of participation!
